About Tisch 01.

Tisch 01 is a multi-functional table designed to be easily assembled, disassembled and flat-packed when required during our increasingly nomadic lifestyles.

Born out of a need when the designer and his wife first moved into their small 4th floor Berlin apartment. They required a large 2m long table from which, not only to entertain guests but also to spread out and work from.

Flatpack.

The main logistical criteria guiding the design was how to carry a large 2 metre long table up 4 floors around a small winding staircase?

The idea to resolve this was to divide the table top into 4 quarters, make it flat packable, thereby rendering the problem of transport & delivery much more manageable.

Parametric Design & CNC.

Tisch 01 was also designed parametrically, using software that allows one to change the parameters of the design without having to constantly redo the drawings if a change needed to be made. This underlying logic underpins the configurator that facilitates its customization.

Additionally, without access to a workshop - the design had to be able to be cut using local CNC fabricators. CNC or Computer Numeric Control is the automated control of tools using computer code.

In essence, the table was designed to be cut out of a flat sheet of commonly available wood, such as plywood, in the manner of a jigsaw puzzle. The parts could then be assembled together easily at home with common fixings like screws and bolts.

Materials.

When making 'Tisch 01 'yourself, we encourage people to research and choose whichever material suits their style, budget and ethic.

You just have to make sure that the board thickness corresponds to the thickness specified in the CAD file - currently either 15/16/18/19mm

If ordering the production from us, the Tisch 01 configurator currently allows for the following materials:

- Plywood
- Valchromat
- Solid Timber Panel

We are also currently trying to source a supplier for reclaimed timber board - stay tuned.

Transparent Pricing.

We believe it's important for people to see what goes into the production of a bespoke piece of furniture in order to understand the amount of work and effort involved.

Mass production unfortunately often hides the amount of work required because of economies of scale.

When furniture is made to industrial quantities, unit prices become a lot lower, making it possible to offer the pieces at lower prices. Unfortunately, this also creates a problem of overproduction and then the need to sell the items to justify the production.

Example pricing breakdown for a Plywood Table size:

L1850 x W850 x H720

We are very much interested the Open Source design movement and in the spirit of Enzo Mari's 'Autoprogettzione', make available the 2D technical drawings of the table for free.

These drawings describe the design intent & construction of the table but do not specify dimensions as the table of course, varies in sizes.
